abstract:

One important physics goal is to study the fundamental properties of the hot, dense medium created in the ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The hot, dense medium is expected to emit thermal radiation which is in the form of direct photons and dileptons. Once produced, photons and leptons traverse the medium with minimum interactions. This makes them ideal probes to study the evolution of the medium by selecting different kinematic ranges.

These electromagnetic probes has been studied over a decade at RHIC. In this seminar, we will introduce the dilepton and direct photon researches at RHIC. The latest results will be shown. Physics opportunities in the upcoming isobaric collisions and beam energy scan phase II program will be discussed.
